The Brief

The premises is a 30m by 35m brand-new unit. It was a bare shell, with minimal fire alarm and electrical installation, only a basic distribution with a few lights in the office plus facilities (toilets). Set out as two areas: an open planned production area with high ceilings of internal eaves of 9.7m and an enclosed office upstairs.

There were multiple requirements set by the client so that the unit was suitable for the company’s use of space. The project was to install all new lighting, dedicated power supplies for specialist machines, sockets, forklift chargers, and services for welfare facilities.

Our Solution

Due to the height of the production area, big specialist access equipment was used for over 50% of the work. This included new electrical high level containment system, cabling, cat5e structured cabling. Second containment with sub main cabling to each item of equipment, general SWA supply cabling to circuits, and 200w Ansell high bay LED lights that were mounted.

Optical beam detectors for the fire alarm were installed to bring the fire alarm system up to standards and be fit for purpose for the company’s use of space.

Installed destratification fan units, to control the temperature within the warehouse by circulating air from the ceiling to floor level. This creates an even temperature distribution throughout the warehouse. The fans were designed and sourced by BN Thermic.

An upgrade to their original main distribution of the electrical installation was required. Large extraction equipment and new sub distribution board were fitted as well as isolation switches.

New supplies were installed for the dedicated specialist machinery including a beam saw, edge bander, heaters, and a shredder. In total, there was approximately 12 three phase supplies within the warehouse. All the machinery had different loading requirements, ranging from 16 to 125 amps.

There were a couple of additional extras that were requested whilst on site. Installation of fibre optic link between two new data cabinets, to maximise performance. Secondary containment and connections between the isolator and the specialist machinery. Moved the shredder control panel 10m to suit the client’s final layout of machinery.
