‘Essential’ work only during this COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ 26.03.2020

As we come to terms with this week’s restrictions announced by the Prime Minister, we all share the uncertainties of the ‘lockdown’ requirements.

GF Electrical Ltd for the protection of our staff and the public have stopped all ‘non-essential’ work.

There has been a lot of news coverage of Construction being unaffected by the Prime Minister’s lockdown. I would like to express that we have taken the decision with our clients, to remove our staff from sites, that are ‘not deemed as necessary’.

We however have other clients that have ‘essential’ work that is ‘critical activity that ought to continue for issues of public safety’. Such clients that are considered as key workers as manufactures and suppliers of medical equipment, care homes, Property Management of blocks of multiple occupancy, housing for the vulnerable, food suppliers, etc. And as such, we will be available to continue to help them function safely and handle ‘essential’ call outs and work.

At this time, it is also deemed essential that requirements for maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment to meet Fire Safety legislation is upheld. We will be avoiding where possible entering people’s homes unless absolutely essential.

We are acting responsibly by liaising with our clients to ascertain the requirements and accessibility for their work and will only carry out jobs if:

  • It can be carried out under the guidance issued by Public Health England
  • It can be undertaken without compromising safety and health
  • Workers can travel safely and responsibly to sites.

We ask of our clients that they respect the health and safety of our staff and provide them the social distance required for them to carry out their work quickly and efficiently.

Our office staff are now working from home and will continue to answer your calls and emails, however, please bear with us and understand there may be a delay in our response time.

Other work considered ‘non-essential’ will be logged and undertaken in the future when restrictions are lifted.

Please ensure you contact the office directly on [email protected] or 01202 259884 if you have any essential work or emergencies.

Please note: government guidelines may be subject to change, we are regularly checking the guidance to see if there have been any significant updates and will reflect this in our working practice. We are members of BAFE, ECA, NICEIC and Safecontractor and as such are getting regular information on the situation, as they represent the industry as the coronavirus emergency develops, including daily involvement in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy ‘Covid-19 Taskforce’.
