Owen joined the company as our 2025 apprentice in October and is enrolled at BCP in Poole.
When he’s not on the job, Owen can usually be found playing football with friends and family. A weekly highlight that keeps him active and social. But his passion for electrical work doesn’t stop there! Even at home, he’s watching videos of electricians online, picking up tips and learning new tricks. Owen’s curiosity and enthusiasm show that for him, this apprenticeship is more than just work — it’s something he really loves doing.
What first interested Owen in becoming an electrician?
I first decided I wanted to become an electrician in the summer of 2025 when I spent a lot of time with my father refurbishing our laundrette. The work included a lot of practical hands on labour but mostly electrical work. I was very intrigued by all of it and wanted to know how everything was working. By the end of week one, I had learnt so much and had really gained an interest in the industry.
Gaining Hands-On Experience in My First Months
The most exciting part for me, is to be a part of some big projects. Looking back when it is all finished and seeing how nice it looks and how well it all works. It is a part of the job that is really satisfying for me and I’m excited to get involved in more projects.
Building Confidence Through Real-World Experience
I feel my colleagues have been really helpful and good at teaching me. They show me all sorts of things, letting me then get on with doing a part of the job. It has helped with confidence. Letting me learn my own way of getting things done to help improve me for the future.
In the upcoming months I’d love to continue to be involved in some big installation jobs. It’s the best way to get involved and help the team out. It is also the best place for me to learn about how things work and how to do things correctly.
My First Big Milestone as an Apprentice
I was given the opportunity to get involved with the makings of the Christmas Grotto at Stewart’s Garden Centre in Christchurch. Once we completed the job it was a real nice and satisfying feeling to see it all finished, looking lovely with everything working. It gave me some confidence that the work I did was good and up to company standards. I was later praised by my colleagues about some of the work I did there, which was a very nice feeling for me to have as a first year apprentice.
