Christie joined us back in 2021 when he was 19, as a first-year apprentice. Brilliantly, he has just finished his exams at college with Distinctions! Christie turned his back on A levels because he knew it was not where he wanted to be. He tried his hand at a few different areas and prior to starting with us, he had worked as a data engineer.
At Eastleigh College, the setup is a week’s attendance, every three weeks, rather than day release. Christie benefited from this way of doing the theory side for his NVQ. “It gave me the time to focus during the week and get my head into the educational side. I have had positive feedback from my tutors all the way through.”
Christie has enjoyed the various work with all his colleagues and peers, learning from them all. Now he is passing down his experience to Anthony, who started last September. He has had so far, a great opportunity to work on many fantastic jobs. He has taken the chance to shine and show his dedication and drive to be a good electrician.
General Manager, Danny Squibb
“As Christie arrived with prior work experience, it massively helped him. He had the basics nailed already and understood what an employer expects of their employees, such as arriving on time, etc. He was very keen to build on the tools and drills as he knew it would help make him be more efficient. He has embraced his college work and by all reports back, is achieving high results in tests and practicals. His development over these last two years has been some of the best I have seen in an apprentice. Christie is very good at carrying out tasks with minimal supervision. His work is neat and tidy and at all times he is presenting the company image.”
Senior Electrician and Supervisor, Billy Walker
“Christie is a likable guy. He is easy to work with as he always wants to get stuck in. He has a confident demina about him. What I really like about him, is his keen interest in learning every day and willingness to take information on board. This makes my job easier. I can trust that he absorbs the plan and direction he is to take on-site. His confidence helps him tackle issues and figure things out, that many apprentices sometimes pause or find the answers from others before thinking about it. But at the same time, I can trust that he will ask questions and guidance where he needs it.”
