Stewart’s Garden Centre – Broomhill

One of three large Garden centres of this family-run business took the opportunity to look at their kitchen and the way that they were serving their food, during the COVID lockdown.

The Brief

The client was looking to expand and make their kitchen more manageable, modernising their processes, whilst also making the seating area of the Coffee Shop more aesthetically pleasing.

They realised they could gain the kitchen space needed by changing working methods and a total transformation on their serving counters. New circuits and distribution boards were going to be needed but with further future expansion still to being considered.

Whilst this area would be closed to the public, staff and customers would still be within the garden centre throughout the day.

Our Solution

No increase in demand was required. There were several supplies feeding multiple small distribution boards, which had evolved over the years. We replaced these with 3 large distribution boards.

Dedicated circuits were installed so that all machines were individually supplied, to stop nuisance tripping. This prevents the whole kitchen coming to a complete stop if they have an issue with one machine. The client can continue providing their service without loss of business.

Trunking was used to enable future alterations. Benefits of a wipe down surface are ideal within the kitchen.

Lights installed varied, dependant on the needs of the area. In the kitchen there was anti corrosive LED. Like the trunking, enables them to be wiped down and are perfect for this environment.

Good lighting over the back of the serving counter was required. Small round LED recess lights; neat, tidy, and flush, easy to clean again. Most importantly give a good even spread of light.

Feature lights were put in on the walls and over the serving counter to identify specific areas. In the prep area, 2 new suspended LED light fittings provide decent light coverage, small and aesthetically pleasing units.

Functional feature lights were chosen to emphasis the seating area to make it inviting and comfortable.

During the project there were a couple of additional requests made. Extra sockets were installed to enable the new table tracking system to function.
