We chose a reputable UK-based company that we could work alongside, Gemma Lighting. They created the design and provided a comprehensive lux chart and data sheets, utilising the existing posts. This included the positioning and angle of the new heads. They were able to do this sufficiently by looking on Google Earth.
A 50W Conquest LED streetlight was used, with a combination of pathway optics and symmetrical optics. These luminaries achieve the required average lux and uniformity for a medium use car park. The optics control the distribution of light and ensure the luminaries only illuminate the required area, with minimal back spill and 0% upward light distribution.
The streetlights benefitted from having an anti-corrosion die cast aluminium, stainless steel fixings and featuring high impact glass for additional protection which were also shield compatible. Warm white 3k lamps were chosen to give a warmer glow, any other colour temperature of lamp would not have worked for the SLL Night sky guidance or residential neighbours.
Tracing and testing of all the existing cabling was conducted to ensure that they were fit for purpose and safe to use. Completed visuals on posts to make sure that they were in good condition. Removed an existing head to confirm sizes of spigots required.
All existing lanterns and brackets were removed and disposed of, in accordance with all the relevant Regulations. The existing control systems were suitable for the client’s requirements, therefore left in operation.
There was a follow-on meeting to make minor adjustments of the angles of the light heads. One additional shield was needed to avoid glare into neighbouring properties.
