Bristol Maid is a Hospital Metalcraft supplier and manufacturer of hospital equipment who has been a client of ours for nearly 4 years.
The Brief
The property is a very large site that is used for production of hospital equipment. One requirement with this client is that the production line can rarely stop. The client provided us with their annual shutdown period to do maintenance. In this two-week period, we were asked to complete an upgrade of all their lighting.
Due to expansion and new machinery, there was no flow within the production warehouse. The client wanted to have this production to be more organised by operating in a circle, with each machine for the following step next to each other where possible.
Our Solution
Lighting
One of the first main projects was to install 98no client issued high level light fittings using a mobile elevating work platform (MEWPs), during normal working hours in 5 separate zones starting as a matter of priority the main factory section.
This project started by isolating and removing existing high-level lighting and put aside in a designated area. All lighting was changed to LED fittings on motion control to be become more energy efficient.
Because there were some alterations made to locations as per provided lighting plan, the work continued after the designated shut down period. There were more LED light fittings to be changed in different designated areas. Coming to a total of approximately another 84 lights!
Supplies
Disconnection, followed by relocation of supplies were carried out for the efficiency of the machinery circle. Enabling works were completed by adding new three phase dedicated supplies added with isolators. However, there were temporary supplies installed for machinery to still operate while moving.
We supplied and installed the following, using Cat6 cabling to match and to use the existing containment/cable routes where possible.
As this was outside of the shutdown period, working around them was very important and forward planning was needed so production wasn’t bought to a halt.
